
FILMMAKER
Hanxiong Bo was born and raised in Beijing and currently splits his time between Beijing and Los Angeles.
His latest short film, “DRIFTING,” premiered at the 67th San Sebastian International Film Festival, was showcased at the 77th Locarno Film Festival’s Filmmakers Academy Screenings, and received numerous accolades, including Best Narrative Short (Academy Award® qualified) at the Athens International Film and Video Festival, the Arte Prize at Filmschoolfest Munich, Best Short Film Award at Reykjavík Film Festival, the Golden Kojita Award at Nara International Film Festival, the China Award at Nowness China New Talent Awards, and the Critics Award at Mecal Pro Barcelona. It was also featured at the 2019 CAA Moebius Showcase and Mana Contemporary Museum, as well as at over 70 film festivals worldwide. The film has been acquired by ARTE, U-Next, and Argo.
Bo was selected for the 2024 Locarno Filmmakers Academy, as well as Werner Herzog’s Filmmaking Workshop in Colombia in 2020 and the 15th First International Film Festival's Director Training Camp. He was honored with the Jack Nicholson Distinguished Student Director Award and the HFPA Directing Fellowship. Additionally, he served as a camera operator on Francis Ford Coppola's "Distant Vision."
He earned his BFA degree in Film and Media Arts from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago and his MFA degree in Film Directing from the University of California, Los Angeles.
